Fasten panels, displays and fixtures with precision using genuine 3M™ Dual Lock™ Coins. These pre-cut circles simplify assembly where screws, snaps or hook-and-loop are too bulky or too weak. They deliver repeatable engagement strength, clean aesthetics and reliable holding power on high-value substrates.

Why Choose 3M™ Dual Lock™ Coins?

3M™ Dual Lock™ reclosable fasteners use mushroom-shaped stems that interlock with exceptional shear strength and alignment accuracy. Compared with traditional hook-and-loop, Dual Lock typically delivers up to five times the holding power and a more rigid, positive “snap” engagement. The coin format provides a clean, uniform attachment area ideal for retail signage, electronic components, access panels, POS displays, fixture mounting and lightweight removable hardware.

Available in standard profiles (e.g. Type 170, 250 or 400 stem densities) as well as low-profile variants, these coins allow you to choose the correct engagement strength and re-closure cycle life for your application. They can replace mechanical hardware where vibration resistance, aesthetics or assembly speed matter.

iTapeStore offers small quantity packs as well as bulk pricing for production environments.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter Options: Typically 0.625" (16 mm) to 0.875" (22 mm). Other diameters available by special order.

  • Stem Density Options:
Type 170: Lower engagement strength. Suitable for lightweight components or when easy disengagement is required.
Type 250: Most common universal-use option. Balanced tensile and shear strength for general assemblies.
Type 400: High holding power. Suited for demanding mounting applications.

  • Adhesive Choices:
Acrylic adhesives for high-performance bonding to metals, glass, paints, HSE plastics and outdoor applications.
Rubber adhesives for cost-effective indoor applications on smooth, clean surfaces.

  • Reclosability: Designed for repeated opening and closing cycles without loss of stem integrity.

  • Temperature Resistance: Acrylic-backed versions offer strong performance across wide temperature ranges and UV exposure.

  • Compatibility: Bonds best to HSE substrates. For LSE plastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene, use an adhesion promoter (e.g. 3M Primer 94) or consider mechanical attachment.

Made-to-order. Most configurations ship in approximately three business days.

Application Guide

  1. Surface Preparation
Clean and dry surfaces thoroughly using isopropyl alcohol. Remove dust, oils and processing residues.
For LSE plastics, prime the surface to achieve maximum adhesive wet-out.

  2. Adhesive Bonding
Apply firm pressure across the adhesive-backed coin. Pressure activates the adhesive and improves initial tack.
Allow 24–72 hours for the acrylic adhesive to reach full cure strength.

  3. Engagement
Align the two Dual Lock™ components. Slide slightly to position if needed, then press until you hear the audible “snap”. This indicates proper stem interlock.

  4. Re-closure Considerations
Dual Lock™ offers significantly higher peel and shear resistance than hook-and-loop. If your application requires frequent removal, consider lower stem densities or a larger engagement area for easier disengagement.

FAQs

What is the difference between Dual Lock™ Coins and hook-and-loop dots?

Dual Lock™ uses mushroom-shaped stems rather than hooks and loops. This produces higher shear strength, a firmer feel and longer-lasting reclosability for semi-permanent fixtures.

Are Dual Lock™ Coins removable?

The fastener itself is reclosable. However, the adhesive bond may be permanent depending on substrate and adhesive type. For temporary mounting, select removable adhesives or use non-adhesive coins with your own bonding method.

Do they stick to powder-coated metal?

Yes. Acrylic adhesives bond well to powder-coated surfaces. Ensure the coating is fully cured, cleaned and degreased before application.

Can these replace screws or rivets?

In many light-duty applications, yes. They offer fast installation, clean appearance and vibration resistance. Engineering evaluation is recommended for high-load or safety-critical assemblies.
