Industrial strength VELCRO® Brand hook and loop is a high-strength closure system that has been engineered for environments where standard fasteners do not apply. iTapeStore stocks the EXTREME product line in rolls and pre-cut strips, with custom cutting available.
iTapeStore has no order minimums, and offers free shipping on purchases over $50.
Why choose industrial strength hook and loop?
Industrial strength hook and loop fasteners are designed for applications that require high strength, long-term durability and vibration resistance. Stronger hook profiles combined with high-strength acrylic adhesives provide a secure fastening system. This is important for applications such as equipment enclosures, signage, removable covers, fixtures, and assemblies that require a dependable yet removable fixing.
When compared with standard hook and loop fasteners, industrial strength products provide higher tensile and shear strength. This is because they are engineered specifically for applications where maximum holding performance is more important than frequent use. They require considerably more force in order to separate, providing a secure and reliable connection, even under the most demanding conditions.
Technical specifications
The acrylic adhesive system bonds well to high surface energy substrates such as metals, rigid PVC, acrylics, and painted surfaces. It also grips many medium surface energy plastics. However, acrylic adhesive systems are not suitable for fabric or flexible cloth.
Key performance characteristics:
- Operating temperature range: 0 to 150 °F
- High shear strength for vertical or static loads
- Resistant to moisture, UV exposure, and solvents
- Long-term durability indoors and outdoors
- Pressure-sensitive adhesive: full bond strength after 48 to 72 hours
Surface prep is important. Ensure the substrate is clean, dry and free from oils. A wipe with isopropyl alcohol will do the trick.
Application guide
For maximum performance:
- Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry completely.
- Press firmly across the adhesive side to wet out the substrate.
- Give the adhesive 48 to 72 hours to cure before hanging any weight on it.
- To separate, peel slowly from one corner instead of pulling straight away as there is less stress on the substrate that way.
- Don't use this on flexible fabrics or porous materials. The adhesive can't wet out properly on those surfaces.
The engagement force is strong. These are made for semi-permanent installations.
Frequently asked questions
Is industrial strength hook and loop removable?
It is, but you'll need real force to get it apart. The hook geometry is aggressive on purpose. If you need to open and close something regularly, go with a standard strength product.
How strong is industrial strength VELCRO® Brand hook and loop?
Approximately 1 lb of holding power per square inch of tape contact. The EXTREME series exceeds this with higher shear ratings for heavier or more demanding mounts.
Does it bond to powder-coated surfaces?
Most of the time, yes. The acrylic adhesive copes well with the majority of powder coatings. Worth testing first as low surface energy formulations may need a primer.
Can I use this product outdoors?
Yes. The acrylic adhesive has solid UV and moisture resistance. Works in most outdoor environments without problems.
Is this suitable for fabric or flexible textiles?
No. This adhesive system needs rigid, smooth surfaces to bond properly. Fabrics don't provide enough surface energy for a lasting hold.
